The Tesoro Entertainment Units is excited to announce the addition of Ryan Johnson as the Visual Captain Head for the 2018 Marching Band Season!
Ryan is an award winning instructor, drill and show designer within the marching arts community. He has designed shows for award winning marching bands, winter guards and winter drum lines of all age ranges and difficulty levels for various high schools and groups throughout Southern CA and Arizona.
Ryan is an alum of the Academy Drum and Bugle Corps, where he marched for seven seasons. Upon aging out in 2009, he was that drum corps First Horn Sergeant.
Last year, Ryan returned to work with the Gold Drum & Bugle Corps which is an Open Class competitive junior drum and bugle corps based in Oceanside, California that performs in Drum Corps International (DCI) competitions. He has also worked with the Pacific Crest drum corps another corps that performs in DCI competitions.
He is currently the visual caption head for the Riverside City College Marching Tigers, and the Azusa HS Aztec Regiment.
Ryan was born and raised in Arizona and now makes Southern California his home. Aside from design and teaching life, Ryan is currently pursuing a degree in music education.
Richard Huang is a performer, educator, and marching percussion battery arranger. He has over 20 years of experience and has worked with many high schools and drum corps.
Richard has most notably worked with the following programs:
Additionally, he has also worked with Taipei Yuehfu, The Troopers, and Pacific Crest.
In 2018, he helped Tesoro HS Percussion win the Silver Medal at ADLA Finals.
Richard is currently on faculty as a music teacher at Irvine High School and is a musician at the Disneyland Resort. He has his BA in Sociology from California State University, Long Beach and a teaching credential from California State University, Fullerton.
Aron Murillo has been a Visual and Performing Arts Clinician (VAPA) in Orange County since 2011.
Originally starting with the Irvine Unified School District, he has become a familiar face to Capistrano, Downey and Mammoth school district Arts departments.
He has been involved with over a dozen programs across California that have received awards including selection as a Grammy Signature School, Unanimous Superior ratings at festivals and “Cappies” awards in Theater Arts.
In the fall season, Aron works extensively with instrumental music ensembles such as Tesoro High School’s Concert Band & Wind Ensemble and will be returning for his third year with the Tesoro Entertainment Unit led by Directors Andy Magana and Yeon Choi.
After the Marching Band season ends, Aron switches gears and focuses on working with students to begin rehearsals with theJazz Ensembles, Indoor Marching Percussion (winter drumline), Chamber Orchestras and Musicals for performance preparation throughout the remainder of the year on campus and at festivals.
David is the cymbal instructor and battery visual tech for Tesoro High School.
His performance experience includes the Impulse Drum & Bugle corps, The Mandarins Drum & Bugle Corps, Pulse Percussion (2013 - 2015) and POW Percussion in 2017. David taught the Pioneer Drum & Bugle Corps from 2017-2018, the Elan Percussion in 2018 and Westminster HS from 2012-2018. He is also working with other Southern California high schools including both Dana Hills HS, and Northwood HS.
David is also working with POW percussion as the cymbal tech. POW Percussion is a world class perfromance ensemble dedicated to redefining excellence and achievement through the marching arts.
David graduated from California State University, Long Beach in 2018 with a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Geography. David lives in Westminster, CA.
Alex has worked with high schools in the Southern CA area and was most recently at South Pasadena HS where he was part of the Visual Staff for the Marching Tigers.
Robert is the new lead instructor and choreographer running Tuesday night and Thursday after school practices. Robert has been a high school and DCI Color Guard coach for many years and has built a number of very strong Fall and Winter guard programs including the Azusa HS Aztec Regiment.
Robert is also currently working with other Southern CA high schools including the Rancho Verde Crimson Regiment.
Kristen has been working with Tesoro high school since the fall of 2007. Born and raised in Orange County, she started her “Colorguard career” at El Toro high school graduating with the class of 2002. During her high school career, she participated and preformed in WGI championships in Dayton Ohio as well as with WGASC, where she earned a Silver and two gold medals.
Kristen was a performer and color guard captain for Pacific Crest Drum Corp as well as Pacific Crest winter guard from 2003-2005. In 2007 She continued marching with a world class Colorguard, Corona Winter Guard.
Additionally, she has also worked with Woodbridge high school Colorguard in 2010.
She graduated from Orange Coast college with an AA from the Cardiovascular Technology program and today she works in cardiology as a cardiac sonographer.
